“El cine es un arma maravillosa y peligrosa si la maneja un espíritu libre.” – Luis Buñuel
On Cinéma Ibérique
About us

The Panorama : Cinéma Ibérique is an initiative of Ruben Garcia Muriel and Ana Corga Vieira, set up within the framework of the Spanish and Portuguese lectureship at the Université libre de Bruxelles, with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Belgium and Camões, Institute of Cooperation and Language, respectively.
We endeavor to explore and reflect on the cultural and cinematic connections between Spain and Portugal, as these two countries not only share the same geographical space at the western end of the Mediterranean and Europe, but also parallel historical milestones in their history. Indeed, while there is no doubt that Spain and Portugal share a common history, it is equally clear that cinema has become a privileged means of expressing their realities, challenges and transformations.
From the calm lyricism of Portuguese cinema to the narrative intensity of Spanish cinema, Panorama : Cinéma Ibérique offers, through a selection of films representative of the two countries, an invitation to reflect on these two artistic traditions, establishing a dialogue made possible by the choice of a common link, especially of a thematic nature.
With the support and financing of the Université libre de Bruxelles, of the Embassies of Spain and Portugal in Belgium, of Camões IP and of the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels, Panorama : Cinéma Ibérique aims to be a showcase for the Belgian public, highlighting the cinematography of these two deeply linked and, at the same time, singularly unique cultural traditions.
